German Supreme Court ruled that thumbnails do not infringe any copyrights

The German Supreme Court made a judgment on a lawsuit filed against Google. A plaintiff claimed that displaying thumbnails of plaintiff’s works in search results in Google’s image search service infringes copyrights. However, the German Supreme Court dismissed the plaintiff’s appeal, saying that thumbnails displayed in search results are not images of actual size, but images whose sizes are reduced.As for the case in which Louis Vuitton sued Google, claiming that using Louis Vuitton’ trademarks as links in search results infringes Lous Vuitton’s trademarks, the European Court of Justice ruled, in March, 2010, that Google is not infringing any trademarks.
