JPO publishes a case digest of registered image designs

The Japan Patent Office (JPO) has published a case digest of registered image designs. The cases, selected among the “designs including an image” (for example screen displays) registered following the revision of the design examination criteria that took place on October 31, 2008, were chosen as likely to help the public get a better understanding of the new examination criteria. The JPO hopes that the case digest will prove to be a useful reference for the preparation of application documents and drawings, as well as for the general management of intellectual property.
The case digest is divided in three parts, each part focusing on a different type of cases:
*Cases where an altered design was recognized as a separate design
*Cases of images displayed on and used as part of a product
*Cases involving several related designs
