Current status of measures against counterfeit goods

Current status of measures against counterfeit goods

Many counterfeit products are traded around the world, causing great damage to Japanese companies as well. In addition, it has been pointed out that the spread of counterfeit products in e-commerce and other areas will continue into 2021 and beyond, and we believe that the damage will become even more serious. However, it appears that a considerable number of companies are not aware of the "extent of damage" or "amount of damage" caused by counterfeit products.

International trade value of counterfeit and pirated products

In 2021, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) estimated that the value of international trade in counterfeit and pirated goods in 2019 was$ 4,640 million(equivalent to 2.5% of world trade volume).
