EPO's annual filings have exceeded 20 for the first time.

On March 24, the European Patent Office (EPO) released the "EPO Technology Dashboard 2025".

According to the report, the number of patent applications filed with the EPO in 2025 reached a record high of 201,974 (up 1.4% year-on-year), exceeding 200,000 for the first time.

The main fields were computer technology (17,844 cases), digital communications (17,802 cases), electrical machinery, equipment, and energy (16,997 cases), and medical technology (15,905 cases).

The main countries of application were the United States (23.3%), Germany (12.1%), China (10.9%), Japan (10.5%), and South Korea (7.1%), with China ranking third for the first time.

Furthermore, among the top 10 applicants by number of applications, four were from Europe, and two each were from the United States, China, and South Korea.

On the other hand, the number of patents granted in 2025 was 119,756, of which 34,357 (28.7%) were unified patent applications.
