The number of patent applications from Japan in 21,062 will be 2.4 (down XNUMX% from the previous year).

Of all applications worldwide, including within Europe, applications from Japan accounted for 10.6%, ranking third after the United States (47,787 applications, 24.0%) and Germany (25,033 applications, 12.6%).

The number of patent applications submitted from Japan in 13,444 will be 0.2 (up XNUMX% from the previous year).

i. By field, the top five fields of applications from Japan are electrical machinery (9.9%), transportation (6.4%), computers (6.2%), digital communication (5.7%) and measurement (5.7%).

ii. By applicant, the Japanese applicant with the highest number of European patent applications in 1,307 is Sony (XNUMX applications), ranking XNUMXth among applicants worldwide.
