EUIPO's number of patent applications for the first half of 2026

EU Trademark (EUTM)

The number of patent applications in the first half of 2026 reached 104,263, an 8.4% increase compared to the first half of 2025, setting a new record high.

This increase is mainly due to an increase in the number of applications from EU member states (63,274, a 14.6% increase compared to the first half of 2025).

国別の出願件数は、中国が13,746件(12.4%減)、ドイツが13,457件(15.2%増)、アメリカが8,951件(3.1%増)、イタリアが7,691件(11.8%増)、スペインが7,241件(11.5%増)となっています。

EU Design (EUD)

The number of patent applications in the first half of 2026 was 61,951, a decrease of 1.0% compared to the first half of 2025.

While eight of the top ten countries saw a decline, Spain recorded a 28% increase, and the EU as a whole saw a 1.6% increase.

The number of patent applications by country is as follows: China with 17,644 applications (28.5% of all applications), Germany with 8,853 applications (14.3%), Italy with 5,635 applications (9.1%), and the United States with 5,126 applications (8.3%).

EU Geographical Indication for Arts and Industries (CIGI)

Following the launch of a new EU protection scheme for handcrafted and industrial products on December 1, 2025, the first applications for EU Geographical Indications for Handicrafts and Industries (CIGI) were filed in the first half of 2026.

A total of 81 applications have been received to date, of which 42 are from Portugal, 25 from France, and 10 from Slovakia.
