On July 9, 2025, the Japan Patent Office published the 2025 edition of the Government Counterfeit and Piracy Countermeasures Hotline Annual Report, which summarizes the details of the consultation reception services and other activities carried out by the government as a hotline in 2024.
According to the report, the number of consultations and information requests received in 2024 was 1,007, of which 798 were information requests and 209 were consultations.
Of these, there were over 400 cases related to transactions on mail order sites, auctions, flea markets, and social media, with many of the cases being inquiries about information provided on the sale of counterfeit goods via flea market apps and social media advertisements, how to exercise rights both domestically and overseas, where to file import ban applications, and specialized agencies that offer free consultations.
