The Japan Patent Office's online submission system will be changed in accordance with the "Act to Partially Amend the Unfair Competition Prevention Act, etc.", which was promulgated on June 14, 2023, and will come into effect on April 1, 2026.

After the law comes into effect, specific notices, etc. that are subject to online delivery will be deemed to have been received by the applicant if 10 days have passed since the day after the day on which the notice became available for receipt by the applicant using the online application software without the applicant receiving the notice.

Please note the following:

・If you wish to use the online delivery system, you will need to submit a new "Notification of Intent to Receive Specific Notifications, etc." to the Japan Patent Office (scheduled to be accepted from the end of December 2025).

- "Persons who professionally represent others in procedures before the Patent Office" (e.g., patent attorneys) will be required to receive documents sent online.

- Periods during which specific notifications, etc. cannot be received using the internet application software due to system maintenance at the Patent Office or system outages on closed days will not be counted towards the 10-day period.
