Protecting Japanese brand products in overseas markets
Branded agricultural, forestry and fishery products, including products bearing Japanese place names and products protected as regional collective trademarks, are highly regarded overseas. However, at the same time, infringement of intellectual property rights, such as the distribution of counterfeit products and the acquisition of misappropriated trademarks by third parties, is becoming more apparent.
Therefore, this fiscal year, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) conducted a survey on the actual state of sales of counterfeit goods, focusing on major export destinations of Japan's agricultural, forestry, and fishery products, food, etc., as well as countries and regions where counterfeit goods are suspected to be sold.
In this seminar, we will explain the survey results and what should be done now, summarizing the legal systems and practical responses of each country based on the latest trends in counterfeit goods and intellectual property systems.
