USPTO publishes report showing the relationship between intellectual property rights and the U.S. economy

The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has published a report that focuses on the significant economic contributions made by industries that heavily rely on intellectual property protection.Intellectual property and the US economy in 2024" was announced.

According to this report, as of 2024, there will be 128 intellectual property-intensive industries (industries where the number of intellectual properties per employee exceeds the average for the entire U.S. economy):

  • It accounted for $11.4 trillion of the United States' Gross Domestic Product (GDP), which is equivalent to 44% of the total private GDP.
  • It supported 6580 million jobs (4960 million direct jobs and 1620 million indirect jobs), which is equivalent to 44% of the total private sector employment in the United States.
  • It offered workers an average weekly wage of $1897, 53% higher than in other industries.
  • It exported $1.58 trillion worth of goods, which accounts for 81.5% of the total value of U.S. exports.
