US Supreme Court rules that Booking.com is not a generic term but eligible for trademark registration.

On June 30, 2020, the US Supreme Court handed down a ruling that a website name“Booking.com” is not a generic term but eligible for trademark protection.
Booking.com, an online travel reservation agency, had appealed to the US Supreme Court challenging the USPTO’s refusal to protect applied trademark “Booking.com.”
The US Supreme Court concluded that domain names like “generic term + gTLD” are eligible for trademark registration on the grounds that such domain name is distinctive since a domain is exclusive to its owner unlike other generic conjoined terms such as “generic term + company.”
