8th Meeting of Industrial Design 5 Forum (ID5) Held - Level of International Cooperation Higher in Design Field

From October 24 to 26, 2022, the annual meeting of the Industrial Design 5 Forum (ID5), including the industrial design offices of Japan, the U.S., Europe, China and Korea, was held in Brussels, Belgium.

At the meeting, the partner offices looked back on their activities taken so far, and agreed to cooperatively respond to the rapid changes of the environments surrounding designs that have been brought by new technologies such as the Metaverse and confirmed to proceed with “enhancement of interoperability” to further increase the level of cooperation among the partner offices.

In the project of “Study on the Admissibility of Internet Information as Legitimate Disclosure for Novelty Examinations” mainly led by the JPO, a recommended practice document was adopted, which was the first case in the ID5.

The recommended practice documents refer to documents of specific practices concerning designs that the ID5 recommend to the intellectual property offices and users.
